Smart & Skilled Information
What types of courses are eligible for Smart and Skilled?
Recent changes to Smart and Skilled requirements means that even if you have a higher level qualification you may still be eligible to re-train up to Certificate III level to enter (or re-enter) the workforce.
Certificate IV, Diploma or Advanced Diploma level, depending on the availability of funding for these courses, may also me eligible for subsidised training. In addition, some new-entrant trainees and NSW apprentices may be eligible for a training government subsidy if it supports their apprenticeship or traineeship.
Please note that previous qualifications do not affect eligibility, but may affect the student fee.
How much do I pay on a Smart and Skilled course?
Eligible Smart and Skilled students contribute, on average, between 10% and 45% of the course cost, and the NSW Government subsidises the remaining amount. Regardless of training provider, each government-subsidised qualification has a fixed qualification price, a government subsidy and a student fee, which is determined by the NSW Government.
Are there Smart and Skilled fee exemptions or concessions?
If you are eligible to do a Smart and Skilled subsidised course, you may also qualify for fee exemptions or concessions. For more infomation on fee exemptions and concessions please visit the NSW Govt Smart and Skilled website.
Smart and Skilled student fees are for the whole qualification. This means you’ll know, upfront, the total cost of the training. With Upskilled, to make it even more flexible, we have also made payment plans available. The exact fee a student pays depends largely on their eligibility.
